Purpose:

Horticulture programs that are intentionally fashioned to incorporate accessible gardening techniques and specific plants have proven benefits for people of all ages and abilities in a wide range of settings. This day-long conference is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for all attendees to develop and maintain horticulture programs that thrive in their circumstances. Hands-on information, informal presentations, tours and activities out in the Healing Garden will be part of the day. These activities will allow for valuable networking with peers.  This symposium will allow attendees to further develop and maintain a vast array of successful programs as well as to address gardening goals related to patients, clients and/or themselves!

  • Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of the program each participant will relate the content to a target population/setting (i.e. geriatrics, pediatrics, mental health settings) and be able to:

  • ·         Describe the benefits of gardening programs and horticultural projects
  • ·         Demonstrate how to modify both simple and complex horticultural activities
  • ·         Describe adaptations and devices that would facilitate gardening activities
  • ·         Discuss horticultural activities that could be completed in the near future
