    WOTA Ethics: Session 1

    Introduction and Foundations of the AOTA Code of Ethics

    WOTA is pleased to offer an exciting new webinar series this year specific to ethics for the occupational therapy practitioner. Each session will welcome special guest speakers from the AOTA ethics committee. The session will follow the newly released book, Everyday Ethics & the Occupational Therapy. 

    This first session with serve as the introduction to the AOTA Code of Ethics and the Standards of Conduct. What is it? How it is organized and how to use it and more. 

    We encourage everyone to join this first introduction section and then join any and all subsequent sessions. 

    Speaker Information:

    Brenda S. Howard

    Brenda S. Howard, DHSc, OTR, FAOTA is an Associate Professor and Director of the Master of Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Indianapolis School of Occupational Therapy. She is the former Chairperson of the American Occupational Therapy Association Ethics Commission (2019-2023) and is the Representative Assembly Recorder (2023-2026). After more than 30 years of clinical experience in productive aging and rehabilitation/disability, including a specialty in vestibular rehabilitation, she transitioned to academia. She co-edited the book, Everyday Ethics & Occupational Therapy (2024, AOTA Press) and wrote or co-wrote ten of AOTA’s Ethics Advisories.

    This two-day course (with an additional half-day of problem-solving/discussions, consultations & demonstrations with patients) is designed for Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech-Language Pathologists presently providing treatment services for children with central nervous system involvement. The Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) Contemporary Treatment Model as it is used in practice for children with neuromotor disorders will be explored.

    WOTA Ethics: Session 2: Professional Integrity, Responsibility, and Accountability (Section 1)

    WOTA is pleased to offer an exciting new webinar series this year specific to ethics for the occupational therapy practitioner. Each session will welcome special guest speakers from the AOTA ethics committee. The session will follow the newly released book, Everyday Ethics & the Occupational Therapy

    This session will be number 2 is the series and focus on the first section in the Code of Ethics. The topic will be on profession integrity, responsibility and accountability. 

    Guest Speaker:

    Ashley Wagner, OTD, OTR/L

    Ashley is the Director of Occupational Therapy for Family Forward’s Developmental Trauma Center in St. Louis, MO. She also serves as a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Ethics Commission. Ashley speaks nationally on topics related to both trauma-specific occupational therapy for children and the overlap between ethics and equity work, especially within the LGBTQIA+ communities. When not in a late-night zoom meeting for one of her many professional projects or volunteer roles, you may catch Ashley listening to an audiobook during her morning run or, more likely, trying to unravel the mystery of which of her children needs the wacky socks clean for school on Wednesday.

    WOTA Everyday Ethics: Session 3:

    Therapeutic Relationships (Section 2)

    WOTA is pleased to offer an exciting new webinar series this year specific to ethics for the occupational therapy practitioner. Each session will welcome special guest speakers from the AOTA ethics committee. The session will follow the newly released book, Everyday Ethics & the Occupational Therapy

    This is the 3rd session in this Ethics series. This will focus on section 2 of the Code of Ethics with topic areas of therapeutic relationships.
