Leadership in Fieldwork Education through Emotional Intelligence, led by Susan LaCroix and Meghan Anderson
Objectives:
1. Increase understanding of emotional intelligence as it relates to using and managing emotions within oneself and in interactions with OT students.
2. Identify the impact of emotional intelligence on the development of professional behaviors.
3. Enhance understanding of the relationship between emotional intelligence, OT student learning ability, and the development of self-directed learners for OT practice.
About the Speakers:

Susan LaCroix, OTD/OTR has been an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Instructor in the Occupational Therapy Program at Mount Mary University for the last ten years. She has been an occupational therapist for over 35 years, specializing in Gerontology, mental health, clinical management, and private practice addressing women’s mental health in the area of trauma recover, sobriety, and recovery issues. Susan received her OTD degree from Mount Mary University in 2020 with a focus on successful aging and resiliency. Her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy was completed in 2007 from MMU, as was her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1984. Susan has recently continued her doctoral interests in the area of resiliency and the community activated medicine model. She has developed alternative level I fieldwork models during COVID for the first year OT students at MMU addressing the needs of community members as it relates to resilience and the need for engagement in meaningful occupations. As an educator, she is passionate about educating the next generation of occupational therapists to be prepared to work with diverse populations and for them to grow larger in their context of occupational therapy to meet the needs of individuals, communities and populations. 

Meghan Anderson, OTD, OTR/L has been an Occupational Therapist for 17 years specializing in neurological rehabilitation.  She graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2003 with a B.S. in Occupational Therapy and in 2005 with a M.S. in Occupational Therapy.   While working in inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, and sub-acute rehab settings she also enjoyed educating students and giving guest lectures at UWM.  For the past 5 years, she has been an instructor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at Mount Mary University.  She earned her post-professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at Mount Mary University in May 2021, with a focus on facilitating OT students’ self-directed learning skills through case-based learning.  She has a passion for coaching students and fieldwork educators to develop lifelong learning skills.
