Help Us Stop a Threat to OT

Dear WOTA Members,

There is a threat to the Occupational Therapy profession from the current administration in Madison. Last year the Governor proposed the elimination of our OT examining board. At that time, we joined with other professional groups to lobby the Wisconsin legislature and we were successful in defeating the bill.  But this year it has reemerged.

This year’s budget proposal again includes the elimination of our OT examining board. Eliminating this board would be devastating to our profession. It would put both the scope of practice and the rules which define OT Licensing into the hands of bureaucrats. These bureaucrats have no knowledge of what OT accomplishes for those we serve, or how it impacts society as a whole. WOTA is working very hard to defeat this proposal.

Your dues to WOTA fund our efforts to maintain a full time professional lobbying presence in Madison.  This presence defeated last year’s threat. Without this effort, there is no doubt the outcome would have been extremely negative for our profession.

Please support WOTA so that we can continue these efforts. There are 3,800 OT’s in Wisconsin, and 1,500 OTA’s, but only a small percentage currently support WOTA.

Please encourage your colleagues to join WOTA, and protect the future of OT. The elimination of our OT board is still an active proposal and must be actively opposed!
