WOTA sent a letter to the Occupational Credentialing Board, asking for a statement supporting dry needling as within the OT's Scope of Practice.

The Occupational Therapist Affiliated Credentialing Board stated that they are no longer providing position statements on any type of treatment. They stated that the list of modalities is changing all the time, and it is not beneficial to keep a specific list of "approved options." They did agree that if an OT wants to practice Dry Needling, or any Modality, that they need to have documented evidence of the proper training, skills and abilities to use this treatment in their practice setting.

WOTA believes that dry needling falls within the Wisconsin OT's current scope of practice. Ohio follows this same rule, based on very similar language. You can read Ohio's statement here.  This statement does not constitute legal advise. WOTA advises all licensed OTs to follow the current law, and to ensure they have documented the proper training to participate in any specific practice.
