OT practitioners will gain a foundational knowledge of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the potential roles for OTs as Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) in supporting educators to meet the social emotional needs of all students. This will include resources and evidence related to current mental health initiatives of school OTs; thereby offer practitioners a “starting point" to initiate mental health service delivery in their school setting(s).

 

Cindy has served as a consultant and educator to hundreds of school occupational therapy practitioners, school leaders, and educators on topics of inclusive special education, educational equity, school discipline, and organizational leadership. As an occupational therapist, Cindy advocates the distinct value of occupational therapy in school practice settings and supports practitioners in expanding the role of occupational therapists in supporting positive mental health outcomes for children and youth.

Labonte works as a Clinical Education Coordinator for Encore Rehabilitation. She holds certifications in MDS, Lee Silverman BIG, Kinesiotape Practioner, Pilates, and Wound Care. She has spent the last 17 years working in Geriatrics and specializes in Dementia care and Adult Rehabilitation.

Teri Black is the past legislative chair and past President of WOTA 2011-2017.  She served as WI rep to AOTA’s Representative Assembly, and 6 years on AOTA”s Board of Directors and 9 years on NBCOTs Board of Directors.  Teri was the legislative chair for WOTA for 11 years during both successful efforts to regulate OT. She taught for 30 years in the Madison College OTA Assistant program and practiced in schools.
